That's a good start. RIS had some issues with Server 2000 that had to be patched etc. Minor problems can be solved with those Microsoft articles. I am currently compiling a book for publishing on RIS simply because there isn't one. We have been using it on our network for over a year now...
You might also check and see what the specific DNS suffix is. If they are not a member of a your domain, but use the same DHCP server, that could be your issue as well. Might check the firewalls on the XP Home clients as well, our domain GPO kills that when they log in, but without having a DC...

There really is no good guide. Microsoft has published 2 good articles and that's it. The rest seems to be up to you. Do you have any specific questions about it?
