Hi
This may be a really silly question, but please can anyone tell me what the metal type ring with the computer case cables wrapped around it actually does?
I've seen them in quite a few computers, but never knew what they were for?
Many thanks
Craig.
Hi guys
And a big thanks for all your feedback.
I have read a lot of reviews, particularly the one from Tom's Hardware site and the general census seems to be that the E6850 is faster for normal single threaded applications and games, but the Q6600 is faster for programs written for multi...
I didn't split the jack, not sure that is common practice, probably not.
I used the original suggested method, by running a patch cable across two ports and connecting the third port to the second behind the partition walling.
Many thanks for everyone's help and advise.
Craig.
Many thanks guys.
I'll have a read through Tom's Hardware review and see if that helps to make my choice.
But if anyone else would like to add to the input, I'd be very happy to read your opinion on this.
Many thanks
Craig.
Hi Guys
I'm looking at updating my oldish system (Athlon XP+ 3200) and I'm torn between the Intel E6850 cpu and the Q6600.
They seem to be at the same price, but can't make my mind up to go with a faster Duo (3.0Ghz) or a slower Quad (2.67Ghz) processor?
I've checked out Tom's hardware pages...
Many thanks
Took a little wriggling with a screwdriver, but it came out.
Thanks again, it's always nice to have a little reassurance with these things!
Cheers, Craig.
Hi and thanks for the advise.
I just wanted to check, does it pull out to the side as the IR, audio and fireware ports are on that plastic panel, see image on this link -

Hi
A freind of mine has asked be to replace a hard drive in an Acer Aspire 1355LC laptop.
I can see where the drive lives and there is a plastic cover on the side, but I can't work out how to get the cover off, even after removing the two screws!
I don't want to force it.
Can anyone advise...
Many thanks for all the tips guys, I'm doing this tomorrow, so I'll let you know how I get on.
I agree that the switch in the out building will be the best option.
Many thanks again.
Craig.
If you mean to have 2 working jacks (one on each side of the room for two network connections), there will be a bit more configuring involved - but still easily doable."
Please explain doable, as this is the situation -
This room is an out building about 30 meters from the main house, the...
Hi
I already have a working broadband network point in my office, but I want to move to the other side of the room and need to have a second working network point there.
I have tried wiring the second point directly into the back of the original point, like (piggy backing the first) but this...
I spoke to soon !!! That hasn't fixed it !!!
It only shutdown quick a couple of times.
Back to 3 minute shutdowns again. :-(
Oh well, back to the drawing board.
Thanks again.
I have seemed to fix the shutdown speed (down to about 40 seconds), but still get the same System Error Event ID: 2000 "The server's call to a system service failed unexpectedly."
How I fixed the shutdown speed was to go to regedit -
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > System >...
Hi again Karlis
Many thanks for your help, it seems to have fixed the Application Event error log problems, but the system is still taking a pretty long time (over 3 mins) to shutdown.
In the System Event error log we have another error showing, not sure if this shows the reason why shutdown...
Hi

Hi
I am running Mcafee Enterprse and I've found it is causing my system to have a very slow shutdown.
If I uninstall McAfee, my system shutsdown straight away.
I'm running the latest version and dat updates.
Any ideas how to speed up the shutdown?
Many thanks
Craig.
Hi Linney
Many thanks for your help.
I had a feeling you were going to tell me that I couldn't merge the two program folders.
Partition Magic will allow me to resize the partitions, so that's what I'll do and keep both program file folders.
Thanks again for your help.
Cheers, Craig.
