    Hi hnd All your suggestion is untrue, the 'su' command can be executed, but the password always is incorrect. I'm sure I have entered the correct password as I could login from the login prompt. Thanks for your advice.

    Hi What could be wrong when I can login as super-user using 'root' at the login prompt, but I was not able to use 'su' after I login as some other user. Recently I have done some 'chmod', 'chgrp' and 'chown' on some of the files. Could this be the problem or is it something else...

    Hi Mike I didn't know where 'ar' resides, put eventually after I set the path to the directory where 'ar' is, I managed to install smoothly.

    Hi Suresh I was trying to install 'make-3.79.1' in Sun Box Solaris 2.5.1, anyway the problem was I need to provide a path to '/usr/ccs/bin' where my 'ar' utility is at, so after providing the path I was able to install 'make' smoothly. Thanks for your reply.

    Hi rbobbitt There is 'ar.c' and 'ar.o' in the same directory as 'make', are these files the one needed or do I need to download the 'ar' from somewhere else, as I could not find 'ar' in the rest of my system. Thanks for your advice.
