Look on your adapter and it will give you the voltage and ampage that it converts to. All you need now is to get an adapter that has a matching output but is able to accept input votlage and ampage of 240V etc
Are you installing from the Windows OEM cd or from a Brand name (ie, Compaq etc)?...The flashing horizontal bar indicates that the system is trying to load a piece of software.
If this is a Brand name recovery cd then this loads all of their junk especially and AV package that often prevents...
Holding down a system -- is that it will not post/fully bootup with the keyboad connected but will when it is not.
