Is it feasible to have hardware compression to tape if using a magnetic deduplication device such as data domain?
I understand that the DDR box has some compression to it. When we write our aux copy to tape, Galaxy is only writing 400GB of an LTO3 tape. It seems like a complete waste, tape wise.
We have data that spans over ten tapes with written by Legato. The server used to be connected to a library but now only to a single LTO3 tape drive.
All of the data has not expired yet. I've also gone ahead and scanned the tapes. When I use Networker to recover the files, I select correct...
Thanks for the tip! This might seem silly, but how does one browse the data? Normally, when you browse data, it will typcally show the drives of that subclient.
I was wondering how you guys are dealing with bad tape media. We backup to a magnetic device and have a main aux copy to tape of weekly fulls. I've run into a lot of tapes going bad. If there is a bad tape, I have a policy that is an aux copy of manually select fulls. I select the fulls and...
I'm trying to rebuild the index to a backup that spans 2 tapes where the data has expired via scanner -iv \\.\tape0
It found the bootstrap at the beginning, but I cannot still see what is on there in Networker User.
It looks like I am running into errors with Legato not being able to read...
I was wondering how I would go about restoring a tape that was created by legato but no info in legato of what is on the tape. I am not too familar with Legato as I took over when we made a switch over to another product. I was told we would need to scan the tape and put it in the media...
