My problem is that I need a script or a program to do this. (Login, halt, logout). Do you think writing a C program using rcmd will work?

It's actually not a diskless X-station. It boots from a floppy disk and mounts the box with the disk. Issuing a halt on the diskless box only shuts down that box. Any other ideas?

Hi, I have a GUI running on a diskless Linux machine that boots off of another. The GUI has a button that a user can press to shutdown the entire system. In other words, I need to issue a halt command to the box with the disk across the network. Any ideas on how to do this? Thanks,

I have a question to add to this... What if I want to use an actual hand held device (PDA, remote, etc) only to display and interact with a GUI running from my Linux server? I want to be able to interact with that GUI using a touch pad of some sort. Any ideas? Thanks, Laura

Well, the CD burner we have is on a PC, not on the AIX. I was wondering if you could somehow make an image with mksysb and put it on a CD some other way.

Does anyone know of a way to take a system image (from mksysb tape) and put it on a CDROM and boot from this CD?

HELP! I've been trying to read a Joliet CD-RW on my AIX machine (4.1.5). It was burnt from Windows 2000. I see the wierd DOS names although it was not configured this way. Example: exam~1 Is it possible for AIX to read these files?

Hello... I am not a sys admin, but we don't have one right now and we are having problems with our new disk. We used to have a 4gB SCSI disk. We just upgraded to a third party 18gB SCSI-2. Everything seemed to be going fine until we started copying a large file system to the new disk...
