FYI
Most of the old 40 wire IDE connectors were not cable select so it did not matter where you connected the master and slave. Most of the new 80 wire IDE cables ARE cable select, the master must go on the end and the slave in the middle.
Does your motherboard manufacturer have a bios update that will support larger drives? If not, you will probably need a bios transaltion program so the full drive will be recognized. If it is a Maxtor drive try http://www.maxtor.com/en/support/downloads/maxblast3.htm
