Thanks, pixl8r, for letting me know that what I was trying to do wasn't possible in PhotoShop.
When I read that, I went back to the drawing board and eventually found a way to solve my problem in Illustrator.
So all is well. Thanks again for clueing me in.

I thought I used to have a transparent option on the color palette (and I do in Illustrator, which I tried unsuccessfully to transfer). I tried to use the one on the Swatches palette...also unsuccessful. I tried to create a new non-color based on the "transparent" color codes in AI...again...
Thanks for your kind messages. My 19-year-old computer geek son taught me a few years ago (when he was less patient than he is now) the meaning of RTFM, which suggests pointedly that we read the manual before asking questions. So I really try to do my homework first.
The reason I didn't use the...
Deecee, sorry I annoyed you. I tried to find the answer in manuals, online, in the Help section (unfortunately, Illustrator's Help, and the Illustrator folk suggested I go to PhotoShop), and word searches on this forum before I resorted to the forum itself.
On the forum, I used the word search...
Thanks, barehug! I did view the source code during my search and found the color but couldn't make heads or tails of it. Now that you're telling me what to do with it, I know exactly the field you're talking about to drop it into.
I always wondered what the color code in that field meant, but...
Thank you both. What is missing is that I don't know how to do a screen capture of a website. I tried valiantly a month ago, looking up all the wrong keywords I'm sure. Our hardware guy couldn't remember.
I tried again for this color sampling venture but was only able to copy text. Tried...
Okay, Duncdude, this brings up another little bit of ignorance of mine. A month ago, I tried to capture a webpage every which way I could, and I finally gave up. I tried again when I was attempting this color sampling from a webpage and again was unsuccessful.
I'm not a techie, although I do...
I have PhotoShop 7.0 open and also a webpage open. I'd like to duplicate in PhotoShop the colors in the webpage. I've used the eyedropper tool every way I can imagine, consulted manuals and Help, all to no avail.
I'm probably not looking under the right words in the index. I know I should be...
Oh, I know what I was doing wrong. I was entering the HTML "mailto" text (HREF, etc.) in the Web page field instead of Poblano's simplified version. A star for Poblano.
I have been trying to use the eyedropper tool in Ill.10 to sample a color from a website. I followed the directions in the AI manual, to no avail. I have a second manual that doesn't address this at all.
I tried bringing the website offline, still no luck. Would someone tell me what I'm...
Okay, in spite of the designation after my handle, I am not a techie. I tried putting your text in Quark, which didn't work.
I tried creating a hyperlink in the pdf and inserting your text where I'd normally put the URL, and apparently I don't know how to do this for an email.
I think I need...
I would like to place a link in a pdf document that opens up an email message pre-addressed to our organization. The original document is formatted in Quark, i.e., it's not an HTML document.
I know how to put a link to a web URL in a pdf. But I've searched manuals, the web, the Adobe site...
I started this thread and am still following it. Thanks for the continued education. I have learned from every post.
Thank you all -- for your enthusiasm for your field, your kindness, and your generous sharing of knowledge with us who are newbies.
Oh my gosh, thank you!! I would never have figured that out, and I don't remember reading anything remotely like it in the manuals, although it must be there somewhere.
You hit my stubborn streak when you offered to do it for me. I thought, No way, I'm going to figure this out if it kills me...
The background needs to be a buff color. I have the buff color in CMYK and RGB. For this task, replacing the white background with the buff color would be just as good as making it transparent.
I have gotten the buff background on all the images (using the pen tool) except for this nutty one...
I am new to PhotoShop. I have checked past messages, and I think maybe the contributors are leaving out a step somewhere because they know what they're doing and figure it's obvious. I've consulted the manual and PhotoShop Help and am still stumped. I know this is an elementary question.
I...
