ACK... found the prob... all the hardware was fine... the prob was IBM Corp, hehe updated the bios and foom! everything worked... Thats the first time I ever seen a bios prevent Windows from using any type of cdrom upgrade
I have an IBM pc 500Mhz with a 20G hdd, has issues with cdrom not being seen, and when I got it 'seen' after doing a fresh fdisk and IBM recovery cd install this is what happens.
Try to access the cdrom in explorer and pc hardlocks
Ran Ontrack DataAdvisor and it states partition is bad
Redo...
Go to Ontrack.com and get the trial Data Advisor software... then run a full scan on your harddrive.
You may have a damaged partition as this is one of the symptoms
I had a BSD shutdown on xp (had random shutdowns due to acpi) But now XP will not boot fully. It looks like it will, I get to the start of my desktop, the wallpaper shows up, I hear the sound (windows startup sound), then the blue welcome screen pops up, and then I hear the shutdown sound...
