The only way I know is to run an agent that processes selected documents. Is there any way to deselect documents without running an agent?

Go into Results Field Properties. Have you set your results field so that it can have multiple entries? You may also need to set the multi-value options on the third tab to 'Seperate Values when user enters a comma'. That should sort you out!
