    I am embarassed to say that I've been searching for the wrong file name. When I searched for the correct file name, I found that, in fact, it DID exist on the user's machine. Renaming it fixed the problem. Thanks for your help and your excellent perception.

    Unfortunately,no. My user with the problem definitely does not have the Excel file anywhere on his machine. Of the other two machines I tested (succesfully) one did and one did not have the Excel file in question.
