In NT 4.0 open control panel, fonts, file, install new fonts...highlight the new fonts you want to load from the list of fonts: (assuming your new fonts are listed)or click on select all then OK. There should be a statement at the bottom of window that is checked for "Copy fonts to Fonts...
Thanks Ramhead & Sedgehog for your input. Found the name of the original file could be changed to MFC42a.dll then copied the new file to the folder. After rebooting to ensure the process worked I removed the MFC42a.dll. Error msg is gone.

NT 4.0 cannot run with DOS. NT does have a DOS emulation that runs within NT. Under Programs choose Command Prompt. Another note...your friend should install NT using NTFS to make full use of NT's capabilities.
