I would suggest to make sure there are no programs like gator,comet cursor or bonzi buddy on the system. Then download and run something like Lavasoft adaware software. Internet explorer 6 freezes when I visit most pages!!!
It sounds like a problem I had on my home system. This was resolved by removing gator (and some other unwanted rubbish) from the system.
