Cannot access client pc remotely due to time/date issue

When I run psexec to the user desktop (xp pro) I get "There is a time and/or date difference between the client and the server." I also get "access denied" when I run the at \\clientname time /interactive "net time \\server /set /y" command. I cannot access the machine from my win2k3 server's AD...

Intermittent offline desktops, Target computer not found

I've got a small network of 25 or so pc's with 2 DCs: one win2k3 sbs, one win2k3 enterprise. Over the past few weeks I've been getting intermittent issues where one or two desktops will be offline after poweron, users will not have network drives and/or printers. I tried setting the policy...

sbs did not pickup dc / dns function when another server crashed

That was the problem. I guess when I had looked at that interfaces tab before I had assumed it was listing the other IP because that was the IP of the other DNS server. No more 409 event id's and desktops have regular network functionality--though I did notice a lag of a few seconds while...

Check if user has local admin rights

Use these commands: net user /? net localgroup /? Find the syntax you need, make a list of the computernames and batch it.

sbs did not pickup dc / dns function when another server crashed

The other DC is a DNS server also and appears to be functioning properly in the same domain. I did dcdiag and netdiag on both and found nothing out of the ordinary. I wonder, when I go to the interfaces tab of properties in dns where it lists what ip's to listen on, I show it is listening on...

sbs did not pickup dc / dns function when another server crashed

Forgot to mention, I checked our desktops also and they list the sbs along with the other in the DNS section of ipconfig /all.

sbs did not pickup dc / dns function when another server crashed

OK, I verified that the sbs in question holds all the fsmo roles. I also verified that the server is only listening on the correct addresses (as recommended by the event ID fine print) --also verified in the registry. I'm still at a loss as to why I continue to get the 409 entries and why the...

Check if user has local admin rights

I'm curious, why would you need local rights unless these 50 pc's are not all part of the same domain? What would you be doing locally that a domain admin couldn't do?

sbs did not pickup dc / dns function when another server crashed

ipconfig all on my desktops shows both servers under dns as we have intended them. I installed updates, rebooted and then I checked the event log and there was a fresh 409 event there. I checked dhcp settings on the enterprise and the sbs was not mentioned in the options, so I added it. I'm not...

    Logon Notification

Also, you could use winexit and group policy to auto logoff users after a preset timeout. See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314999 for info on the winexit.scr. Put winexit.scr on all systems and make a policy to configure it.

sbs did not pickup dc / dns function when another server crashed

I have a small 2003 domain including 2 DCs (one sbs and one Enterprise). The other day a power supply failed on the Enterprise server and all internet access was lost and xp pro desktops got balloons saying working offline. I'm trying to determine why the sbs server did not pick up the dc/dns...

    GPO Screensaver on server

I made a GPO to do this using winexit.scr This forces users to logout at night (I think Microsoft made it, Google it if interested). But you can use whatever .scr you like. To set it up: - Make a GPO and name it appropriately (make sure it is an OU where your users reside) - Edit the gpo and...

    Software assignment in group policy

I'm having trouble assigning software in group policy. When I check to see if my software is installing, I do not find it or any error messages indicating a problem. I force gpupdate and rebooted. Please see the attached screenshot and help if you can.

Windows 2003 Server Network Utilization goes from 20% to the toilet.

I'm trying to get automated backups setup on a small network but I'm having difficulty because file transfers are ridiculously slow. An example is a 1.5gb file taking 5 minutes to transfer between 2 servers. Both servers have gigabit cards (intel pro/1000 EB). One is win2k3 enterprise server...

user password change in Global Security Group

I am trying to reset/edit a password for a user on my Windows 2003 Server Active Directory. In the AD Users and Computers snap-in, Under Users, the user is part of the "Domain Users" Global Security Group. The user is NOT listed under USERS; I have to open the "DOMAIN USERS" Global Security...
