Had similar 'misnaming' problem on a machine. Changed to selected master/slave rather than csl. This fixes it as otherwise xp chooses its own drive order
I have seen this slowdown with a lot of Dell computers. Irrespective of type, have you downloaded KAZA for music? This comes with real problem files like 'savenow' which can take 100% of processor power.
I am trying to synchronize my main pc and laptop email accounts. Done the 'save copy on server' option when downloading. need to synchronize pst. Cannot get way of working with xp. thanks in advance
Thanks for all the replies. All very helpful. The answer turned out to be simple, but frustrating. The cooler on the AMD chip had moved in transit, just a couple of millimetres. this compromised the cooling and hence the shutdowns. Beware cooling these xp chips!
I have built 12 machines, all identical motherboards, processors, ram, hard drives.
2 of them just shut down for no apparent reasons. Chips not hot. Fans ok.
Seem to do it when using dvd drives more than anyother times.
help would be appreciated
