The new ntoskrnl.exe is the problem. It was probably created from a different version than you are currently using. (ie different service pack installed on the creator's computer)
Since safe mode does not work you will need to run the recovery from the winxp cd.

It might be a power problem. You might have "dirty" power or surges (the surge protector may not work). If a power problem shorts the components, then they won't work until replaced, but later you will have the same problem again.
Use a voltmeter to test the power outlet.

It was DNS with DHCP that was the problem: The client computers would recieve an IP from DHCP but were not assigned a DN. So I had to configure the DHCP server to give out that name by selecting the "Domain...

·I set up DNS, DHCP, and Active Directory.
·I created an OU in active directory.
