I have a question about my setup and RAID 0 speeds and hard drive speeds in general. I don't seem to be getting what I should out of my setup.
*all hard drives in this post are Western Digital 7200k rpm Special Edition Drives (8mb cache)*
I recently setup a computer with an Adaptec 1200a RAID...
I have a Laptop with Centrino wireless.
The problem is that after turning on the computer, the wireless adapter will not start until the computer is logged in Locally to Windows.
There is even an indicator on the front panel which shows if the wireless adapter is on or not. It stays dark until...
You have definitely hit the nail on the head. I think the fact that I'm using Netware makes the complication factor go through the roof!
My goal is to have a set of 18 or so removable volumes that I can rotate thru on a daily, weekly, monthly basis much in the same way as I currently use tape...
I deleted all File System Devices using the Device Config wizard. Now I cannot add any back in.
I have two volumes right now 'backup1' and 'backup2' they are both mounted as NSS volumes and accessible from the Client where I'm running Arcserve Manager.
When I go into the Device Config Manager...
Ok, I setup the device using the Device Configuration Wizard but, they don't appear when trying to add a device to the device card in the Device Manager (under Device Group Configuration) Where should the devices show up in ArcServe Manager?
When I went back to the Device Configuration and...
Ok, THAT makes sense. I do have an old tape drive and SCSI card... that's perfect.
Terry, I was evaluating the cost of backing up 150GB of data onto tape or onto disk. Hard Drives are way cheaper! And faster! I'm going to (this is the plan anyway) buy 15 200GB Western Digital Special Edition...
Yes, I understand. When I installed Arcserve I created a file system device for two test volumes that I had created - one of which was currently mounted in the server.
However when I load Arcserve I get the following error:
CANWPADB: Binding : ADAPTER [BKSTROSM.HAM] / [1]
CANWPADB: DEVICE[0] ...
I'd like to build a Netware 6 / Arcserve 9 box that backs up to IDE drives. Currently I have an Adaptec 2400a RAID card with a few removeable cages hooked up to it.
However Arcserve won't recognize the 2400a card or its attached devices (which are netware volumes)as 'registered'. How do I get...
moffatc,
I worked with CA on this for a LONG time. They were completely unable to restore my tapes - the data on them was trashed.
They did issue me a patch to prevent this from happening again. I do not think it is available on their website... two files a new fstape.nlm and fstape.msg...
Lb,
There is an upgrade option for Arcserve 7 however they've changed the license scheme to make it a bit more confusing (and more profitable, I assume).
There is no more Enterprise, Single server, etc. You only buy Arcserve and then you buy 'agent licenses' for each server you wish to back...
I have been having a nightmare experience with Arcserve 9 and would like people's input...
I installed it originally as an upgrade to 7 on one of my Groupwise Servers so that I could back up Groupwise 6. Right away, I needed to restore something and got an E1062 (Invalid Session Signature)...
On all of my most recent tapes, when merging or restoring, I get this error message:
E1062 - Invalid Session Signature
The Restore/Merge Operation then quits. I have patched Arcserve & Netware, upgraded my Sony DLT-9000's firmware, and tried restoring by media, session, wizard, and every other...
Believe it or not, the RAID failed on my GW server this weekend and since I never got this figured out, I don't have a reliable backup....
I get '"E1062" Invalid Session signature' when I try to merge or restore.
I really wish someone would help me with this... although its a little...
I have just installed Brightstor Arcserve 9 as an upgrade on my Groupwise6/Netware6 server. I did not previously have a GW agent so I was looking forward to backing up my GW Domain & PO.
I loaded the GWTSA agent with the correct settings in the GWTSA.NCF file. I setup a Restore Point in...
I'm trying to install the Arcserve 7 Manager on a win2k workstation and during the install I get the following message followed by an abrupt cancelation of the install.
"Error 1920.Service ASDiscoverySvc failed to start. Verify you have sufficient priveliges to start system services."...
I did all this and thought I was all set! Two backup jobs ran and merged fine. I took a previous tape to merge it in (needed to do a restore) and partway through the merge, the server ABENDED:
Server DDD halted Friday, January 10, 2003 10:22:51.863 am

I actually have the ASDB files from patch qo31736. Is that a problem? Should I revert back to the older ones???
I'll try upping the bti.cfg values and restart the server. I'm assuming I should start with a blank database as well?
Thanks!
