Hi,
Thanks in advance, but I'm really in a bind here.
I have a client who uses a small DB system that was running on NT. They wanted to upgrade due to stability issues.
They daily backup their db files to disk (small amount of data-but critical) usually 300kb for the db backup, and 50kb for...
Random note - I'm pretty sure you can't make a cd-rw bootable, but not sure. I would think it would have to be a CD-R only that you could close the session on completely.
Had an NT 4 box, needed to put XP on it. Had a database on it, and was told the backup was good for the DB. Turns out it wasn't, big fubar.
Box originally had 1 2gb partition 1 16gb partition, Fat32
Box now has 1 18 gb partition, NTFS
Anyone know specifically of any tools that can recover...
I see your point, and raise you another:
True, but we are also talking about multiple drives each of which will contain a subset of the full backup scheme (every third or 4th day as well as every third Friday/month/6month etc). So if we have a drive failure we do have the other 2-3 offsite as...
From a smaller business perspective...
Since we only have about 10 gb of data to back up daily (20 users with some commercial lab data), we should be able to store multiple restore points on each HD. This would allow us to get away with 2-4 external drives (100-200gb with casing), back up one...
Hey Oppie,
I haven't used Ghost since around '99 or '00, so I'm figuring its made some changes.
Can any of your above procedure be scheduled or does the server have to be taken fully offlie manually?
Has ghost improved to the point where its good for making general machine images again? We...
Thanks both for the info and the link. The link looks promising for quick answers on definitions.
One thing I wasn't able to figure out when looking it up...
ICMP (3) code (13)
From what I gathered from a quick look was that its essentially a message being sent that something i sent out was...
Hey paul,
thanks for the update. For some ungodly reason I don't think they ever bought a cleaning tape, so they'll probably have to order it. Every week eh? I'm right on that :)
I'll let you know if anything fun happens.
thanks again,
jt
hey all,
found the thread interesting and was hoping it was still alive.
newbie firewall user here as well, and was wondering if there was some sort of guide out there to figure out what a lot of the logging means? for instance:
2004-03-28-21:07:59 IP discard from 68.162.xxx.xxx port 1482...
got a watchguard soho setup behind a completely open verizon router. everything in the soho list is "denied" in incoming except for a few specific services we need. TCP and UDP on one port in the 10000 range, plus ipsec. If I go to the shieldsup! site and do a scan, the only port that comes...
Anyone still around on this thread?
I've got 3 SOHOs at 3 diff sites. I've tried MUVPN-lite at two of them. Both can connect, pinging away happily via IP. I can even connect via IP address. Using any sort of netbios name gets me nowhere, any quick ideas?
thanks for any advice
JT
Let us know how this turns out, the idea had crossed my mind as well. It seems cheaper to pick up the new PC, drives and card than a full tape drive route. Licensing may play into it, but for ease of use it would be nice.
Is the DR functionality on the software any good?
Is anyone still following this thread? I'm having the same trouble. Drive and tapes were working fine as of about 6 mo ago. Backed up fine, restored fine, yadda yadda, I was doing a restore test every 3 months or so to check. Left it for about 6 months (they've never had to restore anything...
Network card receives an IP address relatively easily (very small network off the router - 3 comps). Did not try to hardcoat an address because it did receive one so quickly... but will try.
Bios was initially set to user (for the original hard drive), and still had issues installing win2k...
At the 2k splash screen the status bar gets about halfway along then stops for about 3-5 minutes, then continues to boot normally.
No warnings or errors in the event viewer, once it boots its like nothing happened.
Situation: WinME computer was having problems booting, network issues...
Actually, I would also be interested in any replies. More specifically, does anyone know of a good site or resource with a nice "checklist" to harden the server? While I know most of the well known practices, it would be nice to have a documented form with all the more obscure...
hello,
system on a network with a win2k DC
user on the system user.domain
took system off network (no DC)
same user on system user (no .domain under docs and settings)
transferred data over to new user profile - no prob, everything works fine.
about 3 months later decide the 2 gigs of...

Here's the deal:
Meeting requests sent from Office XP to Office 2k are sent as "source data (only header info)" and not the nice graphical accept/decline message. Causing an exec huge annoyance.

Ok, thanks. That does a good portion of what I want to do as long as I can get it to work on a template.
When I did the mailmerge/fill-in it brought up an entry window.... Is there a way to link those together. ie, I enter "company name - short" and it goes to 15 different places...
