Thanks for the info.
Do you know of a web site where I can get the whole explanation ?
One last thing, could misconfigured speed & duplex generate collisions ? I know that this type of problem generates some CRCs and Deffered errors but does it cause collisions too ?
Thanks
Hi,
I'm trying to understand the statistics provided by my Cat. 2950 switch and I get some messages that I simply don't undestand. I checked on the web without success, and here I am on the Tek Tips Forum...
Does anyone know where I can find the meaning and, most important, the cause of these...
Well, for those who are interested, I found a nice little piece of software that allows me to get ports statistics without using ether SNMP or the HTTP server of the Catalyst 2950 switch. The software is called Kiwi_CatTools2.exe.
Check it out, there is alot of other capabilities...
Hi all,
Our Security dept. forbids the use of SNMP on the WAN but I still need to get some port statistics from my Catalyst 2950's that are in the field.
Is there a way to get these stats without using SNMP or the web interface (CMS) ?
Thanks.
That's it !
I simply enabled portfast on the desired ports and it worked right away. Is it possible to enable it on all port at once ? It takes a while to enable it on every port on every switch of a 5 switch cluster...
Thanks for the tip :-).
I am mystified...
We are staging some workstations with WinXP using PXE (Preboot Execution Environment)- wish gives the workstation its IP informations. We tried it on some unmanaged Dell 2124 it went fine, but when we swaped them for the brand new Cisco 2950's it didn't work anymore. The...
I've been running squid proxy-cache 2.4 on OS/2 server for a couple of months now and I'm realizing that the cache.log and acces.log are becoming bigger and bigger (150Mb and still counting).
I realized that the logs where getting so big Squid froze and none of the clients could access the...
I use the Full-duplex pod to capture, but it still does not tell me if the signal is efectively full or half duplex...
Any other tools out there I could use to get what I need ?
Thx
Hi,
Is there a way to know if a network is at half or full-duplex with Sniffer Pro? I know its possible, but I just can't figure it out by myself.
Thanks

Youmight want to start here : http://www25.nortelnetworks.com/library/tpubs/pdf/switches/bps/208700b.pdf
It includes a map of all CLI screens, it might help...
bcastner,
Would you say the same thing for the Dell PowerConnect 2124 (non-manageable switch)?
I know I'm getting into picky details, but the performance issue is a big one in my environnment - Finance/banking.
Thanks
This is all very, very relevant information, thank you.
But, there is still one thing on wich I'm not too sure. I'm afraid that sending data from my server at 1000Mbps to a client wich receives it at 100mbps will fill the switch's buffer very quickly frames will be droped. Will the 802.3ab...
We installed Cisco 2950 switches and I'm doing some testing. I'm asking for some info regarding the RAM buffer on the switches. I have servers connected at 1000Mbps and clients connected at 100Mbps.
Will activating the "Flow Control" option on the servers to make sure I don't...
Wouldn't the 2 Gig ports on the switches justify their use ? The company already paid for these Gig ports.
I guess the question now is, will I get better performance with one Gig Nic or with two 100Meg Nic ? Obviously, the second option is more robust, but how often does a nic dies...
I simply want to have a second opinion on informations givent to me by a (another) consultant...
We just installed a stack of pure BPS2000 switches connected to a Nortel router. Since its been up, I keep getting about 20-30 alignment and FCS errors a day from the switch on the router port...
We just bought a bundle of cisco 2950 switches with 2 1000Mbps ports. The original idea was to connect the servers on the 1000Mbps ports and to connect the clients at 100Mbps. The Servers are running Win2K and the clients WinXP. Sounds logical, does it?
But now, some architect wants us to use...
