I did like you said, I used my laptop with procomm plus and ran it dirrectly into the serial port of the Alpha server. Yes it did work......kind of. I get this prompt:

This is fine but does me no good what...
I think you are correct about the serial output. It has two 9 pin serial outputs and both have some type of adaptor plugged into them. Looks like a phone jack but has six connections, but a 6 pin phone STYLE plug will not fit the socket. I tried. The lock pin is offset. I also picked up a couple...
Our Local Hospital just went belly up and had a mamouth sale. I purchased a Digital Dec 2000 axp Alpha Server. I wanted to set this up for my Linux server so I could free up a PC for another user. So when I got the thing home there is no place to plug in a monitor. I find this very odd. What did...
When a user dials into my home network and downloads a file or just trys to use various shares on the server the throughput speed is very bad. Lets say they download a 4 meg file, it takes 75 mins. This is just not acceptable.
If someone would like to help me with this I would be glad to send...
In my personal opinion this topic is just to complex to have a simple answer that can be written here. I would higly recommend first take at look in your R.H. box under /usr/doc/dhcp-2.0/readme
This file has all kinds of help and also explains where to get more information on setting up dhcp...
I am running R.H. 6.2 as server. All Win9x users on the lan are working great. All systems show up and can share resources with each other and the server.
My problem is with dial in users, my ppp and pap is working great. No problems pinging the server once connected or bringing up a Telnet box...
I find DNS very usefull, if you have many users on your system it is easier to connect to, lets say " Bob" than it is 192.168.20.36 or whatever you use for Ip's. Their are other reasons but this is what I use it for.

Just an update:
I have found that most problems that I have had are always something simple that was just overlooked. My biggest problem with the dial-in was a missing options.ttyS0 file with 192.168.1.1:192.168.1.3 or what ever you would use, in it.
My next hurtle is to be able to see the...
I have been fighting with this problem for months now and I know it is something simple that I am missing. I have read all the helps ect. and have spent 100's on books and the EXACT answer is just not in print. I have a local network with win9x machines logging into my linux box via the lan with...
