Well fortunately the story had a happy ending. The data recovery tool allowed me to recover all of my data. Now I'll just reformat the disk to a basic disk and everything should be back to normal.
I have my doubts that it's a problem with the drive itself. The manufacturers tool didn't turn up any problems. I think the problem originated with a dirty shutdown. That and the vagaries of dynamic drives. It would be pretty confident that I reformatted the drive as a basic drive, it would...
It's a 1.5 TB Western Digital caviar green. I did e-mail the manufacturer, but received no response so far.
I already tried hooking it up via my eSata docking station. I can't recall if it was detected in the bios, but it definitely didn't show up under disk management or Windows Explorer.
I...
I tried that, but I ran into the same problem of not being able to activate the disk. I'm using a tool called Recover My Files Professional Edition at the moment to see if I can recover the data on the drive. It will probably take another 12 hours or so to complete a full scan of the drive.
For some reason I can't activate a dynamic disk connected to my PC via a USB hard disk enclosure. It has activated previously without any problems.
When I check the event logs, I get this message every time I try to activate the disk: dmio: Harddisk2 write error at block 2930277167: status...
Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'm using MS access at the moment and have found that to be unsatisfactory due to performance issues and the fact that the database is currently nearing the 2 GB access database size limit. In fact I don't much like access period and would prefer to completely...
This is probably more of a "where do I begin sort of question". I have a database containing about 2.5 million records which I want to be able to View/Add to/edit. Just simple stuff. What I am looking for are some basic tools to do that without writing too much code, or better yet, using no code...
The device Texas instruments PCI-1510 CardBus Controller" has detected a CardBus card in its slot, but the firmware on this system is not configured to allow the CardBus controller to be run in CardBus mode. The operating system will currently accept only 16-bit (R2) pc-cards on this...
Probably never, unless Microsoft stop the security updates. XP does all I need. To upgrade to Vista would require me to splash out on new hardware which is a pointless expense I would rather avoid.
I have found AV programmes to be a pain in the arse. Too many false positives, not detecting...
...I'm working my way through those posts. Strangely enough, the problem still has not re-occurred so far today.
I should also mention that I don't have any AV installed at the moment (previously I had)
Silly me...this was a typo:
"I'm running Windows Vista."
I meant to say I'm *not* running...
Nothing in the event viewer related to this.
I'm running Windows Vista. I have enough problems already besides introducing Vista to the mix :)
Funnily enough, the problem hasn't occurred today which may be an indication that it's an intermittant problem. I'll monitor it and see how it goes...
Most power management settings are switched off. But under ' Suspend Mode', there are two options:
S1 quickly resume from suspend mode
S3 conserve power settings while suspended (takes longer to resume)
S3 was the option is selected, so I changed it to S1.
However, I don't use suspend or...

If I don't move the mouse or keyboard on my PC for about 10 minutes, my system sort of goes to sleep i.e. when I click the mouse or a type on the keyboard, the system is unresponsive until about 30 seconds or so later when the system finally wakes up. I can actually move the mouse around the...
