    Sophos Console 4 problems

Thanks, but I think I've now solved it. Its a certificate problem - each PC and the server carry a certificate (buried in the mrinit.conf file). When I loaded the Console onto a new server, it picked up a new certificate which was then different to all the PCs which still had the old one. Oddly...

How do I access files at other end of VPN link?

Thanks - I tried this and got error 53. However, this doesn't help -according to the list, I should check WINS -well I'm using XP so I don't think this matters, and I'm using the IP address in the net view command. The machines are turned on, and I get a reponse when I ping them. File and print...

How do I access files at other end of VPN link?

I have a VPN set up between our main site A (with domain servers) and remote office B with just four PCs. From the remote office, I can access files on the servers by making a shortcut to the server Ip address and share eg. \\172.16.0.5\shareddocs. However, if I want to see files on one of the...

User has 2 profiles in XP -how to resolve?

Internexus -yes I believe you're broadlt right there, as i have two administrator folders on each machine, one with an extension and one without. New machines always go throught the routine of asking for a local administrator password and insisting that you put at least one user on the machine...

User has 2 profiles in XP -how to resolve?

No -the domain is a straightforward single domain, Windows 2003 servers, no recent changes. I'm not using roaming profiles. The workstations are all part of the domain. I have a user account setup on the server. I plug in a new PC, give it an IP address, log in as an existing user eg. "alan"...

User has 2 profiles in XP -how to resolve?

I've noticed that several users have two profiles in Xp on a network. In documents and settings there is a folder called 'user' and another called 'user.domainname'. I think in all cases these are users who have had their pcs replaced and it seems that when a new acount is created on the pc it...

Unable to create folders unless using UNC path

I've just installed a NAS server running 2003 storage server. It has fixed IP and is part of a single domain. I can browse to it from another PC or server, but when I try to create a new folder or file it says "access denied" although I have full rights to the whole disc. If, however, I make a...

On two new machines running XP SP2, Office Xp SP3, I have the following symptoms: Word is left minimised on the toolbar, Outlook receives an e-mail -the user replies to the e-mail, and on hitting "Send", Word closes without an error message. The only reference to this behaviour I can find to...

    Logon script help required

I had a look at some of those links, but its way over my head - it seemed to take about three pages of obscure script to achieve something simple. Is there some definitive list somewhere of what commands are available for batch scripts which windows understands?.

    Logon script help required

Thanks Joel, but it doesn't work... I just tried mapping a drive M to a program that only medical users have access to. Everybody got drive M showing, but those not in the medical group got "Access is denied" when clicking on it. So it sort of works, but that way everyone is going to...

    Logon script help required

It's me back again! I've been trying without success to give individual groups their own drive mappings following the advice some of you gave me earlier in the year. Can I install office 2000 on Windows XP?

Yes -we're running Word 2000 on XP pro with no problems. If fact you can mix office 2000 and XP if you want -after upgrading to office Xp, several people objected violently to word 2002 (mainly the mail merge function!), so I installed word 2000 along with outlook 2002 etc and it works OK.
