Hi thanx for all the help, managed to resolv the issue by gvving the users read access to the folder and read write access to the LDB file

If i give the everyone write access then they are able to edit and delete record which we don't want them to be able to. i have tried moving the folder to a differant server in case it was server related but the same problem is happening.

i have several databases on a server, with one group being able to edit and everyone else read only, if the group with edit rights open the database th read only users get "can't lock file" errors. all the access rights seem to be correct and the databases are set to shared with no locking...

hi guys i am having a problem starting the windows installer service i get Error: 0002: The system cannot find the file specified. i have re-installed the installer but no joy any ideas ?

thanx for the suggestions, it was a mixture of both i changed the retention to 0 and also run the isinteg till i got 0 error repeoted left it to do the online defrag then did the offline and it's now down the 6 gig Thanx

you might want to check the capaciters on the motherboard to see if any are raised or blown, i used to get this probelm on a batch of faulty boards i recieved. also check your CPU fan is spinning easily spinnin and see if it feels stiff.

have already tried that it runs the defrag and i can even replace the database and have tried creating a new one by renaming the old one but no joy
