DAE as JBOD - changing sector size to 512 over Fibre Channel?

Just a follow up... All 20 drives (and a spare) have been formatted to 512-byte, and everything is working. Now to figure out how to use mdadm with multipath support ;) Thanks again for all your help. Rhino.

DAE as JBOD - changing sector size to 512 over Fibre Channel?

Has anyone successfully used SeaTools to change the sector format ? With my Emulex 8000 on Windows XP, I received an 'HBA not detected' or something of the sort. ScsiTools worked fine though :(

DAE as JBOD - changing sector size to 512 over Fibre Channel?

Since this is a 10-day trial, and I expect to have a DPE in the future.... Will the DPE (or Navisphere) convert the disks back to EMC 520-byte sector format ?

DAE as JBOD - changing sector size to 512 over Fibre Channel?

Have installed ScsiToolBox32, and the first drive is blinking nicely (formatting). Will post update when available. Rhino.

DAE as JBOD - changing sector size to 512 over Fibre Channel?

Unfortunately I've got copper FC-AL on the DAE, and optical on the HBA :( Going to try Seatools Enterprise from a Windows XP box to see if that makes any difference.

DAE as JBOD - changing sector size to 512 over Fibre Channel?

Have requested the demo. Any reason Seatools isn't working ? Would you happen to have the non-EMC f/w for the drive, and I can try that route while waiting for the demo key?

DAE as JBOD - changing sector size to 512 over Fibre Channel?

Perhaps a silly question, but do/should I need to update the 36GB drive with non-EMC firmware ? /dev/sg9 Vendor = SEAGATE Product = ST336704 CLAR36 Thanks in advance.

DAE as JBOD - changing sector size to 512 over Fibre Channel?

Okay... definately have an issue here. Still at 0% :( Will check back in the morning. Anyone know if there are linux Emulex drives on the Knoppix distributions ? Rhino

DAE as JBOD - changing sector size to 512 over Fibre Channel?

Thanks. Still no update, and drives are showing 15-20 second single blinks. (running -B 512 on another drive, same lack of update, and 0%).

DAE as JBOD - changing sector size to 512 over Fibre Channel?

Not what I'd expect from low-level formatting a drive. Disk doesn't appear to be constantly writing, but I can't be sure. Status reported by Seatools is still 0%.

DAE as JBOD - changing sector size to 512 over Fibre Channel?

Every so often, the disk will blink (once every 10-15 seconds or so ?)

DAE as JBOD - changing sector size to 512 over Fibre Channel?

Excellent. I'll fight this battle after I get the drives formatted ;) Still 0% :(

DAE as JBOD - changing sector size to 512 over Fibre Channel?

From the Brocade name server, I'm seeing 10 disks presenting themselves via 2 ports. Both sides of the DAE are connected to their respective copper gbic. On the host side, it appears I'm seeing both disks. Not sure if there's a linux-world DMP solution to handle this once I get the disks...

DAE as JBOD - changing sector size to 512 over Fibre Channel?

Yes, Seagate drives in the EMC carriers.

DAE as JBOD - changing sector size to 512 over Fibre Channel?

Should I expect 0% status to be updated before 100% ? Still seeing scrolling status, but at 0%. Gonna grab a coffee :)

DAE as JBOD - changing sector size to 512 over Fibre Channel?

Ahh, gotcha. They're 36GB drives. Wasn't sure if I'd be seeing any host activity. Will let it run ! Rhino.

DAE as JBOD - changing sector size to 512 over Fibre Channel?

Have grabbed Seatools (Enterprise) and am running the following: ./st -B 512 /dev/sg16 (one of the disks). Not much activity on the Brocade and I'm still at 0%. sh-3.00# ./st -B 512 /dev/sg16 WARNING!!! Changing blocksize will ERASE all data on drive /dev/sg16 Enter Y to change...

DAE as JBOD - changing sector size to 512 over Fibre Channel?

Hi folks, Have a DAE connected to a Brocade via db-9 copper gbics. Dual-paths are visible to my Linux host, however ignores them since the drives have 520-byte sector size. I need to change the sector formatting (possibly even firmware on the drives), but am not sure how to proceed. Debian...

Cisco 827 - memory required for different features ?

Hello, Have an 827, and looking to move to IP/FW or 3DES/IPSEC Feature set. Not sure if I have enough memory for either. I see reference to processor memory, as well as System/Web Flash. Either way, what image would I need to request. Had seen reference to 'T' versions before, if IPSEC was...
