micker377,
It is, but presently I have simply reduced the speed of the fan from 5000rpm to near 4000rpm, it runs much quieter and now my system idles somewhere between 45 and 50 and full load it runs no hotter than 53. So far, so good. I think I am going to invest in a more powerful exhaust fan...
Hey guys,
I installed my new heatsink, and boy oh boy is it ever loud...it's go a freakin' case fan on top. Anyway, the system temperature has settled around 45C and I will tinker a little further with the fan speed to find a suitable noise level, but thanks again for the suggestions. BTW, the...
Thanks guys,
I never did find the cause of the problem, but I suspect that it has to do with improper application of the thermal paste. I have just today gone out and bought a new heatsink, a Thermaltake Volcano 9 and I am going to install it when I have the time. I also have some quality...
Hey Everyone,
I have an Athlon XP 2500+(barton) and it seems to me to be running awfully hot. It idles at about 55-60C and at full load it hits about 70C. I have heard that the Athlon XP runs fairly hot, but should I be concerned?
My system has the following:
3 - 2000rpm case fans(2 front, 1...
Another cheap place to check out is http://www.4dwebhosting.com. They offer a pretty good beginner package and I have been very satisfied with their service over the last several years. I have reccomended them to people for all kinds of hosting solutions.
In response to your questions cdogg...
Hey Everyone,
I just purchased a new case and a DVD Writer, the Pioneer DVR-108 more specifically. I also have an older LG 16x DVD-ROM.
After transferring everything over, I went to start up the system, and everything appeared to be going fine...until the Windows login screen pops up and then...
I have this problem all the time and believe it or not, the solution is generally simpler than you think, in my past experience it has been the hard drive cables plugged in backwards, all you have to do, provided that this si the problem, is to unplug the hard drive cables, see if the computer...
Hey everyone,
I recently attended a LAN Party at my friend's place and I was a little disturbed that I could not connect to anyone over the network and vice versa through windows, whereas the games that we played worked fine.
Anyway, when I got there everything worked and ran just fine, I could...
I've only ever gotten that error message when trying to boot off a formatted, busted or unplugged drive. It is possible that when he removed the power supply, he unplugged the hard drive from the p/s and forgot to plug it back in. Maybe he did, and it's just not plugged tight enough, it is worth...
Hey everybody!
I have my own computer and live at home with my parents(I am only 17). I am forced to share the computer with my siblings. As of late, my 12 year old brother has been wreaking some havoc with my machine and I am wondering how I could set it up to log him off after a certain...
Hey,
I would reccomend the Aspire X-Dreamer case, it is a pretty stylish but functional case, and to top it off, it has a built in thermal monitor :) Oh ya, and the price is only $70 Canadian, so that means about $55 US....

For the most part I agree wholeheartedly with the advice given, but I wish to add a few things:
1)The AMD Athlon XP 2500+ with the stock AMD heatsink can be overclocked relatively easily to speeds of up to 3000+ equivalent(2.167GHz) and remain stable and at a respectable temperature.
2)In terms...
I have no experience with that motherboard or SATA hard drives, but I would imagine that there is a BIOS setting you can change to boot off of a single SATA drive.
Because honestly, why would they put them there if you had to use both or nothing...that is just dumb. I say give it a try if you...
Well for what it's worth, I once had to return a processor where the thermal compound had come into contact with the circuitry and after much research and such, they determined this to be the cause of the dead cpu.
I could be wrong, but just to air on the side of caution, I strongly advise that...
To be honest, I don't think that there are any really good popup-blocking applications, and like Dakota81, was rather annoyed by the delay between popup and blocking software detection.
I would reccomend Opera, it comes with built-in popup blocking capability and it emulates IE6 as I recall...
Yeah, you're right, AMD is rather vague when it comes to that. It's just something that's important to remember when you are applying the stuff. Believe me, it's no fun trying to return a processor that has been killed in that fashion.
Regardless, I hope that saves you time and trouble...
Well Dakota, No matter how you work it, price is undeniably a big part of choosing the processor that is right for you.

OK, I read somewhere that Microsoft was offering a pretty sweet deal for WinXP with one of those Walmart/Linux boxes, just simply to lure more people into using their product over Linux's supposedly "user-friendly" Lindows OS.
So, if Microsoft was offering a discount on WinXP when...
I think it is also important to note that the thermal 'grease' MUST NOT come into contact with the little thingys on the processor, as that will render it completely unusable. Just a small dab on the processor die will be more than sufficient.
Because of my very vague description of the safe...
