Well, this is being placed on a used server pc. uninstalled SQL 2005, installed sql 2008. I guess I need to program sql first. Can't even set sql up.

The issue is not with the wire not being twisted. It is under 50ft. As in a reply early on, is the copper wiring solid or twisted? Each needs to have a specific RJ45 crimp end. Have you tested to see if the cable is crimped correctly. Try a loopback plug in each device and see if the NIC cards...

Also, did you have the cable plugged into any equipment and cut the other end off. This can cause issues as well.

Ok, I have a Dell Presario V2000. It was left on for a week and then if went dead. I can hear the cooling fan spin, the power led comes on, but I do not hear the HD spin. I also can't get the CDRom to open. I have used a paperclip to open the CDR manually, and have loaded the recovery disk, but...
