Have you tried SpinRite (http://www.grc.com/spinrite.htm) or HDD Regenerator (http://www.dposoft.net/#b_hddhid) that that disk? If it's a hardware issue this might make the data available long enough for recovery to another disk.
I called in to Fortres Grand tech support and he cut me off as I was explaining the issue, as in he knew there was an issue already and I'm not the first. He sent me a new executable (a build as of yet unreleased on their website) of Central Control, but it was for 6.0 instead of the 6.5 version...
If I'm understanding you correctly you want to the old SEARCH back from, say, Windows XP or Windows 98. I don't like the way Vista, 7, or 2008 searches for files so I just grabbed a program such as SearchMyFiles (http://www.nirsoft.net). This will take you back to the old school way of searching...
If you can, run a snapshot/backup and try the latest version out. I've attached a screenshot of the version I'm running for reference.
I've been running this for about a month now without any freezing issues.
Another thing to check with ESET is to make sure it isn't constantly scanning...
Do/did you run ESET NOD32 on that server per chance?
I believe an early version of 4.0 had problems with Windows 2008 Server. I don't know the specifics but I had to revert back to NOD32 3 for awhile. It appears it has been fixed now.
One thing I'm curious about though, my ESXi hypervisor was not even close to being loaded. I have 8 physical CPUs for it to work with, and three VMs configured on the machine (this problem VM had two, the other two VMs had one assigned CPU each). I would think that the hypervisor would have...
mynameisgunnar, there were two things I ended up doing.
The first thing was apparently ESXi 3.5 has issues with more than one processor configured for a VM. I edited the configured on the Windows 2008 Server to run with just once processor, and it made a noticeable difference in stability AND...
NetworkTek, thanks for the idea on Clean Slate. I contacted Fortres Grand, am now waiting for a phone call back from their tech support group. I had been having issues with Central Control not saving settings and applying them to the network, I wonder if that is related to this issue.
The...
I've got a problem that has me stumped. Some students are complaining that their home folders (mapped to Z:\) are loosing files that they had worked on. Sometimes these files are recoverable under "Restore Previous Versions", but not every time.
I am wondering what could be causing this...
I'm having issues with my main Windows 2008 Server x64 (ADS Domain and DNS running from VMware ESXi 3.5) that are proving very difficult for me to track down.
Symptoms:
- Server boots with Event ID 6006 and 6005 from source Winlogon. "The winlogon notification subscriber <GPClient> took 91...
Hello all,
I'm having problems with my roaming profiles taking over two minutes to load over the network. One profile in particular is taking 20+ minutes to load.
I have a number of directories excluded via the domain policy, pretty much everything under and including My Documents.
I am not...
I'm wondering if it's possible to have default profiles for individual groups. For example, I want the teachers group to get a default profile, students to get a different default profile, etc. I'm aware that you can create a default profile for all users by "\NETLOGON\Default User" but am...
Ok, I've done a few hours worth of research on Google and can't find a way to get rid of Internet Explorer Enhanced Security on my Windows 2003 Terminal Server.
I tried the Add/Remove Windows Components, everything is unchecked (even tried checking it, rebooting, then unchecking it and...
I might be able to hack that script up, my only problem being with:
'Remove an old printer
WSHNetwork.RemoveWindowsPrinterConnection "\\ServerOld\HP5si"
I need it to (in effect) remove *all* printers that are currently installed. Each computer can be different, and I would prefer to just...
I'm working with XP clients over a Windows 2003 domain, and I would like each client to have all their printers wiped then certain printers I choose to be installed upon logon.
So far my script consists of this to remove the printers:
cscript c:\windows\system32\prnmngr.vbs -x
and this to add...
"Is it nessicary to have individual accounts for each user? While not the best idea in terms of security, most schools/colleges use a "student" account that is able to log on to all machines and accesses everything the same way. Makes user management alot easier in this type of...
Well, I don't have to make everyone admin if I can do these things with normal users. I guess it's just very frusterating for me trying to figure this out, I've been using Windows 98SE in the network for years, and XP handles things very differently.
The problem with installing programs for...
I'm running a K-8 school, and I just recently loaded Windows XP Pro on our two computer labs. XP is great for the kids, I haven't had any problems with the machines locking up, or acting strange. My complaints however are with how much of a pain it is to change settings and want them globally...
