Is it possible to limit the items shown in the top link bar on a site by making use of the 'audience' principle? Or is audiencing only possible for web parts, since there you have the possibility to define your audience in the advanced settings.
Hi,
I am trying to find some information about the things to keep in mind when
starting a SharePoint project.
In particular:
* When to decide to create separate Web applications?
* When to decide to create separate site collections?
* When to decide to create separate sites?
On which criteria...

Hi,
I am searching for elearning solutions which could be integrated with Microsoft Sharepoint. Anybody having experience or thoughts about this subject?
I already found something on the Microsoft sites: Microsoft Learning Gateway: http://www.microsoft.com/education/learninggateway.mspx. Is...
I bought a new wireless router (Topcom). I am able to establish a vpn connection with it to my office. However I cannot access the applications at my office however the vpn connection is active. With my previous router (Linksys) everything was working though without problems.

Hi KenWright,
in fact it is not a matter of having mapped drives or not. It are completely other machines attached on another network. So I need relative paths, even without the server name in it.
Hi GlennUK,
thanks for your reply, however this is not working for me (Excel 2003, Windows XP). After unzipping the files to another pc and opening a file with a link in it, it asks for updating the link, since it is not finding the file the link refers to. And I want to avoid this asked...
Hi,
I have an excel sheet having cells linked to another excel sheet. My problem is, when I want to copy the set of linked sheets to another pc, I have to update all those links, since the directory structure where the files are placed on the second pc is not the same. My question: in the links...
No it aren't Btrieve errors: it is one error, being 39,52, being a RM/Cobol error which is returned. I am using in fact the same RM/Cobol code as in the past but now to access Btrieve files. Normally, this RM/Cobol error happens when I am defining wrong keys or so, compared to the Cobol File...
I'm in the process of converting an existing Cobol application which accessed RM/Cobol data files. Now it should access Btrieve v8.0 files. Some programs run without problem, others result in an error 39,52 (keys not correctly defined in Cobol compared to the physical file). However I am...
Hi justinbcti,
this keeps indeed the window on top of the page that opened it. However I can go to the page that opened it by clicking the button in the taskbar of windows. I would like to avoid this: so a user has to do the appropiate actions in the window opened on top of the page before he...
Our customers compress files with gzip and upload it via ftp. They all use the same script which forces the ftp in binary mode. Sometimes we cannot decompress the received files anymore: we receive following error: invalid compressed data --crc error. When they recompress and reftp the file...
We are thinking, like mentioned above, to add ODBC possibilites on our data layer: nowadays our application uses C-ISAM files as data layer, which is a closed structure. More and more of our customers ask to be able to add BI tools on top of our data layer for reporting reasons etc. If we move...
Tom,
don't wanted to frustate you.
Answer to your questions.
*Platforms: Linux, Windows, different flavours of Unix.
*FDs: yes we do have the FDs available.
*It would be a one shot operation: dump the data into a database and from that moment on working further with a database.
In fact what I...
We want to migrate ISAM data files created by an RM/Cobol application easily to a database format. We don't find a tool to facilitate this process and would prefer not to write for every data file a dump program to export the data into txt files to load this files into a database in a second...
Collect statistics gathers information about the data demography of a column, index, table, etc. It is being used by the parser to determine the optimal way to carry out a query. It means as well one has to recollect these statistics after major changes in the data demography of a table. If you...
We develop documents using XSLT stylesheets and XML files for storage of the data. The XSLT stylesheets determine the layout of our documents: we develop these sheets manually. Are there already tools on the market with which one can develop in a rapid way such sheets: like creating a document...
Hi,
we have developped a client-server application. Our server side is written in cobol, our client side is a thin client, running in internet explorer. We have problems when printing lists: due to limitation of time-outs, we have to return every xxx seconds from our server to our client to...
I think Pervasive offers a completely another approach to databases than MSSQL. Pervasive is much cheaper, it is more for embedded database solutions where you don't want to use a DBA (like for software packages, where end users don't want to bother about database administration).
Besides this...
