Sounds like you need to start clean--try the following, if your lab allows it. Please realize you will need to reset all configs if you proceed according to the following instructions. Just want you to realize that before you start, in case you need to check with someone. Good...

Please see my response to funnyface in this forum under heading: "Resetting a router to manufacturer default". Not sure what model you've got, but my experience in the 2500 series is that they all respond the same. Good luck, and let me know how it turns out.
...
Just in case anyone should run into this, I traced problem...using a mod cable tester, found one cable run with a tip/ring reversal (anyone care to explain what this means?) according to tester booklet. Anomaly was red LED on test unit receiver for reversed pair. This cable was transmitting...
We have a 2524 at work, but I believe process should be similar.
1.) You'll need to make or buy a rollover (not a crossover) cable. From RJ45 on one end to other RJ45, the wires progressively roll over, 1=8, 2=7, etc.
2.)You'll also need a RJ45 to DB9(female) adapter...
Has anyone ever seen or heard of a problem with Cat 5 STP (or UTP) actually causing low voltage transformers to overheat and burn out?

Part of the network at my company is a shop floor data collection system. Cat5 STP runs from machinery workstations in the plant to patch panel/punch...
Problem resolved. Removed ISA NIC, reinstalled onboard NIC, including drivers, and now works okay. Not sure why...maybe a driver was corrupted. Thanks, Steve G.

Thanks for the suggestion. I didn't even think of disabling it through bios (duh! my inexperience is showing).
That worked and allowed me to install the other NIC, but now I can't even get onto the wire. I ping 127.0.0.1 okay (I read that this verifies that IP stack is alive?)...

I've seen router simulations offered for sale at the following websites:
www.tcttech.com
www.routersim.com
www.masontech.com
I have not used or purchased any of these, and do not vouch for them one way or another. I know they're out there because I'm...
Wonder if anyone can help. After telnetting to remote unix (aix) server, my connection locks up after entering password. Login and password are valid since I can access server from other stations (we have a mixture of PCs with NICs, and dumb terms going through Digi port servers.) I know...
I hope this posting is not too general or simplistic for this forum. My company is implementing a new integrated sofware package (aix based) and I will the be de facto sys admin for our location (my "regular" job here is purchasing). We are one of four manufacturing plants that will be tied...
