    I ran a test backup job on the system state of another winxp workstation on our network and got the exact same situation. Also, setting the COM+ services to automatic and rebooting did not solve the problem. Still no idea what is causing it.

    I'm not sure of the best way to set the permissions but afaik the backup software runs as administrator. I checked the permissions on the \config\ folder and it's subfolders & files and made sure that administrator group has full access. Haven't tried changing the open file backup options...
