WinXP USB 6-in-1 Card reader problems

Update: Thanks Guyz for all your help so far - particularly bcastner. Who, if you read this last post, can you tell me if YOUR Device Manager has a separate entry for a USB 2.0 EHCI controller listed. A friend of mine says he's seen an entry on a colleagues' PC. Have just had a response from...

WinXP USB 6-in-1 Card reader problems

Many thanks Martin - but I already tried that first time around the block. As you say, normally these 'simple' devices are just 'picked up' (like pen drives etc)....... AND JUST WORK!!! Thanks for the thought anyway!

WinXP USB 6-in-1 Card reader problems

bcastner Should I have a separate entry for USB 2.0 ECHI in the Device Manager? I downloaded and installed the updated WinXP USB 2.0 a few days ago but don't see an entry listed... BTW, I already have the very latest chipset drivers available. I await your words of wisdom - as always.

WinXP USB 6-in-1 Card reader problems

Excellent selection of MS KB articles bcastner. I feel sure you are on the right track. Will go through them all one-by-one. (I see lots of similar problems listed on the manufacturers website forum - but no responses from the Company...) Thanks once again for all your efforts on my behalf.

WinXP USB 6-in-1 Card reader problems

Update: (for bcastner primarily) Have D/L that Ms KB Hotfix patch as mentioned and then un-installed and re-installed drivers for this device. Alas with same result. When the device is connected up on a reboot, the drives are found by WinXP which then black-screens and reboots giving the MS...

WinXP USB 6-in-1 Card reader problems

Thanks again bcastner for the qwik response although I must get me to bed soon (it's after 02.30AM here). Have already disabled COM Port 2 to free upan IRQ (any others U can suggest) and the temp monitors are simple temp sensors that stick to the CPU HSF and HDD. Will try that MS KB page in...

WinXP USB 6-in-1 Card reader problems

Many thanks bcastner, I was hoping you'd respond! (and congrats on this months 'award' - Wow! that's some record!) This is a brand-new, self-built, top-of-the-range PC and the 6-in-1 card reader/fan/speed/temp-monitor/front-facing usb/firewire/and audio ports in ONE device was just too good to...

WinXP USB 6-in-1 Card reader problems

Have just installed the Sys Guard 3 front-of-case fan/temp monitor with a 6-in-1 card reader and optional front- facing USB and Firewire ports. BUT... as soon as the drives are being recognised by O/S, Win XP (Pro) black screens and reboots, and will do so until the pass-through case USB cable...

Thanks a lot Guyz for your suggestions. No, Kocky, same Win XP Pro O/S for past year, but this is now a spare drive which I was going to pass on. (Have now upgraded to WD Cav 120Gb). Thanks Michael, will download the Drive Tester when I get back home. Away on a course just now...

IBM DeskStar - 'Clicks' x6 times on shutdown

I have a 3 y.o. 25Gb Deskstar - kept as a spare drive - which has recently started to 'click' then 'whirr' (best description!) a total of six (6) times before powering off. Is this the infamous Deskstar 'click of death' i see before me?! Normal operation during bootup and usage.
