I'm able to compile project on XP computer (32bit) with no error.
When I try to compile same project with same files on Win7 computer (64bit) I get "ambiguous date" error on only 4 pr 5 program files.
Is this due to Win7, 64bit or ????
Thanks to all who responded, especially Olaf! I neglected to mention the delay is most noticeable when our appointment module is accessed. Our app uses a DBI-Tech scheduling module but can't get support because the version we have is no longer available or supported. Other features in our app...
Thanks for the replies.
My app is VFP8, peer to peer when networked. Have incurred same delays on Win7 OS as well as Win8 in this case. Had no issues for years on XP Network. One 'server' computer is the data server where DBF files are stored. App is running locally on workstations with all...
This is an old problem that we can't seem to solve. An old client decided to upgrade her system to Win8.1 from XP after years of running with no issues. Her system now runs multi-user network efficiently if wired but problematic if wireless. The following is letter she sent us with analysis...
Mystery solved!! EXE didn't behave differently but Mike's response included the word "deleted" and that was the difference. If original backed up files are deleted prior to Restore, original date/time of backed up files are preserved when restored.
Thanks,
Tony
Thanks Mike and Olaf.
I just checked the drives and both are NTFS. I don't mind living with current issue as restores are so rare but I just thought the date issue is strange.
Thanks for the replies!
Olaf, my procedure uses COPY FILE, not COPY TO fot both backup and restore. Everything works well but I would prefer to retain original dates on the files which were backed up when we restore, if necessary. The original date is retained on the backup media, which in...
My application currently uses "copy file" to backup data files to external HD. I use "copy file" to restore the files from external HD to original folder, but the file dates and times change from original backup date and time to current date and time. Can anyone tell me why and offer a...
Olaf,
Thanks again for follow up.
Inno installing EXE fine and my app runs normally EXCEPT when I copy dataserver "c:\app\Cust.dbf" to local c:\app\temp\custtemp.dbf." The local temp custtemp.dbf file is a copy excluding all fields except name and phone for fast read/lookups of client when...
Olaf and Mike,
Update 2
I spoke at length with developer(Addsum) of OpLock utilty referenced by Mike. He suspects my issue is not OpLock related. He insisted his utility would not help me because Win7-64bit ignores the Registry change made by his utility. It appears I am back at square one...
Thanks Olaf. I will post update when I test it again.
Everything I've read says VFP9 is more compatible with 64bit Win7. I also read that compiled VFP9 app is backward compatible and will run with VFP8 runtimes for existing clients. Of course, I can furnish runtime updates. Do you think VFP9...
Update...
I had one client run Fixit DISABLE SMBv2 utility... NO JOY, actuslly got worse.
Returned to previous stage by running Fixit ENABLE utility.
I will now order OPLOCK utility suggested by Mike and run then both as suggested.
I don't have guts enough to edit or client's registry...
Thank you Mike, I will consider the tool you reference.
Thank you again Olaf ... your link re:OpLock says the following which indicates OpLock settings not valid for SMB2:
"The opportunistic locking registry keys are valid only for traditional SMB (SMB1). You cannot turn off opportunistic...
Thank you Olaf for your reply!
My users are not very computer savvy so I cannot make Registry changes as one of the links suggests.
If I understand correctly, users can run MS Fixit solution which turns off SMBv2 and our M/U share code is still used and valid as it was previously on XP, etc. ...
Our app was written in VFP8 and we use DBI-Tech ctCalendar6,ctDate6,ctMday5 modules for appointment scheduling. Typical client is 1-5 user environment.
We now have clients upgrading to Win7 and have encountered the following scenario:
User1= Data Server if running M/U LAN
User2= Workstation...
Thanks for the replies. The app ran fine on older XP computers and problem developed after new computers were installed. We are not using a virtual PC. Server I refer to is name of a Desktop PC running Win7-"64"bit, which is where the app and data reside. 2nd Computer in the 2 User Network...
I have a wierd, frustrating issue with one client I hope someone can help me with. Our multi-use VFP8 app has been running Peer2Peer on over one hundred systems for years with no issues on various OS, Win2K, XP, Vista and even some others with Win7, so its hard to blame our app. Could this...
