    Hey I really appreciate your advice and thanks...... That didn't seem to work though. I've upgraded the via drivers to the latest, tried different video card drivers, reset my bois to use 'Fail safe defaults', checked in event viewer and the only messages seem to be at shutdown and boot up...

    Ok thanks - i should have thought of getting the latest motherboard drivers before. I will try them tonight after the kids have gone to bed. The native XP drive for the graphics card gives the same problem. i've already been done the directx route. Thanks again.
