You should not be doing two instructions ..."
I tried just using the style, and the bold is built into the style, but for some reason it isn't getting applied – I have no idea why. So I put in the separate instruction as a pragmatic approach!
"why are you selecting the table??????"
Because I...
Well, it seems that table styles are OK for getting the borders right but that for anything else such as font size or paragraph spacing I'm better off applying a paragraph style over the top. So I don't know why Microsoft bothered putting all the font and paragraph options in the table style...
Thanks very much Fumei. I still had trouble because the body of the table (ie everything apart from the header row) was still being overridden by the default para style. So I found out how to select every row except the header row, and applied another para style. I left the table style in...
Hi MiS,
Unlike for para styles, there doesn't seem to be an option to base a table style on 'no style'. Also, shouldn't my settings in the table style modify the built-in style, as in my style will be the same as the built-in one but with the modifications I make?
thanks,
Katie
The style is based on a style that was already built in: "Table Classic 1, Table" (this has a border above and below the header row, a border below the last row and vertical borders except at the outside edges).
I then modified the style to have:
Header row specifically: bold text formatting...
Thanks guys! Now I just need to persuade Word to 'listen' to my table style properly (but that's another story – and another forum!)
Many thanks again,
Katie
Hi,
When I apply the style, it does apply the borders correctly, and makes the header row bold as I specified. But the paragraph spacing and text positioning that I specified in the style does not get applied.
Thanks,
Katie
Hi PHV,
Thanks very much for your reply.
VBA is throwing up an error with the line beginning
Set objTable = ...
Please could you advise?
Many thanks again for your assistance.

Hi,
Does anyone have any advice about setting up and using table styles in Word 2003? I've set one up specifying font size, paragraph spacing and text positioning but applying it to a table doesn't seem to give the table those characteristics.
Thanks,
Katie
Hi,
I'm trying to write a macro to insert a table in Word based on user input for the no. of rows and columns, and then to format it in a certain way.
Below is my code so far (apologies if it's not very good, I'm not experienced at this!) I set up my own table style called "MWGtable" and I...
Hi,
I'm trying to do the following in Word 2003:
[1]Format a series of references using a numbered list so that each item is automatically given the next sequential number in square brackets at the start (as I have done here).
[2]Cross-reference only the actual number from the paragraph...
Hi again,
I changed the Select Case option but the macro is still replacing text in the main document as well as in the headers. Any thoughts on what else I might need to change?
Many thanks,
Katie
Thanks ever so much Gerry! The text is in text boxes because some of the pages are landscape but the headers and footers still have to appear along the short edges. On those pages there is a text box that is 'in' the header but actually positioned down the right-hand side.
Thanks for the tip...
Hi,
I'm trying to do a search and replace only in the headers of a (very long) Word document. The text is in text boxes within the headers.
I found this site and it looks as though the final piece of code should be useful with modification. The problem is that I can't work out how to change it...
OK, that's the same as I was doing. These lines show up whether or not the formatting is displayed – I can turn off all of it and the lines are still there (apart from if I turn off the text boundaries option).
thanks,
Katie
Do you mean in Tools > Options > View? If so, the lines are there whether or not the formatting marks are showing. But they are only there if the text boundaries are turned on.
Thanks again,
K
Hi again,
All sections are single column. No pictures with frames. The margins are the same on all portrait pages and on all landscape pages (and the weird lines don't show up near any transitions from portrait to landscape).
I had wondered if they might be tables. But if I try to select them...
