yes it's usually a problem of configuration or unreachable printer and more often it happens with HHT - sometime when it's all configured correctly and the printer is working it may still give the error if somehow the printer is unreachable and on the next try it would work

what do you mean for : execute closed guest check ? are you trying to reopen checks that where closed in previous days and fail to do so? There is a setting in the Micros Configurator that prevent the editing of previous day checks
