    Word won't open rtf files

Thanks for all the suggestions. We have figured out a way around it. He can open the files when he logs onto his computer rather than onto the network. We do not know what the problem is yet, but I don't have regular access to his system, so I will just let it go. Once again, thanks.

    Word won't open rtf files

What happens: 1)he double clicks on the rtf file in Windows explorer or opens word and asks it to open the file 2)Word opens with an error message saying that the file can not be opened because it does not have a .doc extension ( I have gone to his computer and tried it myself)

    Word won't open rtf files

I created rtf files using Word 97. I then sent these files to my boss. He can't open them using Word 97 on his computer. I can open the same files using my computer. Is it possible that he has a setting on his computer that is easily changed to allow him to read these files?
