This problem has been RESOLVED by applying a firmware upgrade to my AIT-3 SDX-700C tape drives:
* Firmware: http://sony.storagesupport.com/tape/firmware/sdx-700c.htm
* Perform firmware upgrade:
./sonytape /dev/rmt/0 -f sdx700c_0204.x70
SONY tape device detected.

No, I've never had an E9131 error message, if you are getting them then Google "+brightstor +e9131" and then translate the page that comes up, looks like some Linux OS filesize limitation.

We have not had any resolution to this problem, and
CA has not been helpful at all. Of course anything
that even remotely suggests a hardware problem will
be invariably disregarded by a software company, been
there many times!
We have two AIT-3 drives and this happens intermittently
on both...
Thanks Sasha!
It is /usr/uagent/uagentsetup, and that worked like a charm!
I would have thought this wouldn't be necessary when installing the agent from scratch, strange. Is this
script documented, and I just missed it?

Thanks, this is a helpful suggestion, I'm just not sure if it would apply given that my BrightStor server is running Solaris and my library is the only device on my SCSI chain. I'm not aware of any applications which would be trying to access the SCSI device simultaneously with the BrightStor...
Sorry, I should have mentioned that I've tried both reinstalling the agent and removing and then installing the agent, and get the same error "Invalid Uagent License".
I'll log a case with tech support.

I have been using BEB backup agent under IRIX up to and including 6.5.19f with no problems, but after upgrading an Octane system to 6.5.23f my backup agent will not start:
# /etc/init.d/brightstor start
Invalid Uagent License
Has anyone else had problems with IRIX 6.5.23+?

Once in a while when doing full backups of my larger filesystems I am getting the following error messages and my backup fails midstream:
Backup operation resumed on media <media> sequence <seq>
Failed to get buffer for media <media> <id> Seq <seq>, ret=167
E1036 Failed to write to media (a7)...
Thanks for the reply, but I have already seen this table of BrightStor error messages. For this particular error this just tells me that the problem is an invalid user, but I do not see how this could be the case given that our incremental (daily) backup jobs are working for this particular...
A few of our jobs fail with "E9102 Incorrect user ID", which suggests that the user doesn't exist on the agent machine. But what is really strange is that for one particular client, one job works and another does not! These jobs are submmitted through the GUI so this should not be happening...
