that problem is resolved! Peter, from the german dbase newsgroup, had the crucial hint.
The problem was the entry "files" in my config.nt file in %windir%\system32 directory. That entry must have a value more than "10".
On my systems run dbase.exe with Files=20 at this time.

I dont understand what is wrong.
Dbase5 for DOS runs on more than 5 workstations in my corporate LAN. All with WindowsXP Professional SP2.
But on two Stylistic LT-C500 Tablets i get this error message whenever i try to run dbase.exe...
