You can upgrade to the 4.0.3.6 client via the desktop installer on Good's website. Don't know if this will fix it, though. Couple of other things:
Are you both on the same carrier and using the same phone?
Try reprovisioning the phone and see if it takes care of it. Could have been a hiccup...
I can respond as it relates to GoodLink. GoodLink supports multiple carriers and supports several devices. It does not, however, support the newer Blackberry devices, though it does support older, text only BB devices (957).
Currently, Blackberry only supports Blackberry devices.
