    Weird union behaviour

    A union query also does a Distinct. So if you have duplicate rows in a table or the same values in both tables then this will reduce the row count.

    Concatonate / Join results

    Using Union in the query pannel should work. In the query pannel, select CM1 and ADDR Press the "Combine Query" button. This will create a second query. On this second query, replace CM1 with CM2. A Combined query works as long as the number of fields and the types match.

    How to analyse a field with multiple choice data ??

    ...(to search for the character position) and DECODE to return a 1 if it exists and 0 if not. e.g. For a decode(instr(RESULT,'a'),0,0,1) If you don't want to create a universe object then create a new variable in the report for each result e.g =If Match(<RESULT> ,&quot;*a*&quot;) Then 1 Else 0

    Nested Ifs Possible?

    Looks like you are missing a bracket after the Left command. Try : =If Min(<Locationname>) > &quot;G59346A&quot; AND Min(<Locationname>) < &quot;G59348F&quot; Then &quot;LIQUOR&quot; Else If Min(Left(<Locationname>,1)) = &quot;G&quot; THEN &quot;GROCERY&quot; Else &quot;No&quot;

    Date Formatting

    Is the field a Date format on the database as it sounds like it isn't. If it is a text field then alter the universe to take this as a date. e.g. in Oracle : to_date(field_name,'yyyymmdd') since this is now a date field, changing the format in the report will work. Note: Before doing this...

    Drilling to a different format report

    Have you tried using the OUTLINE option? If you Section the report by Nominal Code, have the summary data in the section header and the details below. Select &quot;Outline&quot; from the View Menu and collapse the sections by using the small buttons which appear on the bottom of the Outline...

    Using Index Hints

    If your on Oracle 8.1.x I've found that fully analyzing the table and indexes gives ORACLE a better chance of choosing the correct path. Plus if I never want an index to be used, I use an opperator on the join. e.g. upper(a.Supplier_id) = b.supp_id. I've found using Hints a pain as they can...

    Repository backup/restore

    Our repository is created on Oracle. Exporting the tables owned by the repository user and importing them into another database (using the same username) worked fine. I did this so I could test a repository upgrade.

    Important BO question- changing SQL

    Have a look at thread393-88021 (VBA in BOB) there is a v4 example of how to do this. v5 will automatically convert this to VBA with no problems. You will have to change the html export to &quot;Call myDoc.SaveAs(HtmlFile + &quot;.pdf&quot;)&quot;

    Force type dimension when importing excelsheet

    I don't think you can force this when you 1st create the data provider but you can set the Variable in the report. Click on the &quot;View Data&quot; button (Cube Icon on the top tool bar), select the Year variable, go to the &quot;Definition&quot; tab and set it to a Dimension.

    one master table with multiple detail-tables (lookup)

    Incompatible combination of objects(QP004) usually means you have not got a &quot;Context&quot; for the objects you have selected. I assume you've used contexts to remove any loops from the structure. If you select objects that do not fall into one of the contexts the query will fail as...

    Alerters - highlight a whole row?

    Create the required Alerter. Highlight the row by Clicking in the left of the 1st column in the table (when the mouse pointer becomes a Black Right Arrow) Select Format -> Alterters and check the alter box. This will set the alerter to all columns. This works fine for one alerter but if you...

    Accessing Oracle Views or Synonyms in Universe

    I have done this by creating a view and then a synonymn for the view and it works fine. The only time I've ever had problems with not seeing tables is when using a Microsoft ODBC driver to link to an Oracle database (God knows WHY I would try something so Daft!!). Only thing I can suggest is...

    Column Heading formatting Question

    You can only do this by editing the formula in the cell. Double click the header so that you are editing the formula in the cell. to put the line break in you need to press <CTRL> + <RETURN> in a string. e.g. &quot;Heading 1&quot; + &quot;<CTRL><RETURN>&quot; + &quot;Heading 2&quot; This...

    Column Heading formatting Question

    If you select a specific cell in the heading, it can be resized or deleted and not affect the main table. You can then alter the formula in the heading to concatenate the require headings/values. e.g. =NameOf(<Item>) + &quot;/&quot; NameOf(<Description>)
