I found the bug ... $url is not getting a value, so the code breaks. See: $url = "listing".($$dataref{"businessId"}*9).".html"; Not sure why this is happening though.

Paul, The problem was from the database. I removed the "/" from the "businessTypeDescription" field. "litecatlistings.html" is created in each directory but it only prints the last record of a particular businessType. Not sure what the bug can be ... any suggestions?

I used: open (CATFILE, "> $dir2/litecatlistings.html") or die "can't create file $!"; No errors and still only the directories are created. I still can't create the HTML files. Please help.

There shouldn't be any hidden characters because the ’, – , “, â€, and … come from cutting and pasting out of a MS Word document. I am using the VB function in ASP (ie. server side code). The code does work but oddly enough I can never get any function to work on a text area value...

Genimuse, I understand your point with hidden characters, but there will not be any hidden characters (eg. vertical tab) in ’, – , “, â€, or …. I still can't figure how to play with the value of a text area. I can't even use trim!

I think this is a problem with the text area. I remember encountering a similar problem where I use trim for the text area value and it didn't work. Eg. Desc = Trim(Request.Form("txtDesc")) I got around this problem by calling a javascript function TrimDesc: <TD bgColor=#cccccc><TEXTAREA...

Tried refreshing but it didn't work. I use this function to capture the value in a text area ("txtDesc"). Example: Desc = StripJunk(Request.Form("txtDesc")) The function StripJunk is called before inserting the data into the database. I'm not sure why it's not working here.
