Many thanks to Petertp6. The system is back and operational. The firmware load that Petertp6 sent worked great. We had further issues with the hardware and had to reseat several cards however all is well. As for the IBM site, it has the information just no code. According to IBM you have to pay...
In addition to top and nmon as previously stated you might also find "topas" useful. It gives you a one page dynamic look at the system and is loaded with useful info. As for determining what to delete and not to, might I recommend a full mksysb or sysback prior to deleting to much...
Thanks for the reply,
At this point the machine is rendered useless so what do we have to lose other than time. We have contacted IBM about the firmware and got a song and dance about purchasing a hardware maintenance contract for a few grand and then they might send someone out to fix it. hmmm...
Hi all,
We have an IBM 7013-J40 that fails to boot. We attempted to bring up in normal mode one of the first messages we receive is " NO VALID FLASH FIRMWARE ! ". It attempts but fails to find a boot device and stops at
" system unable to IPL". In SERVICE mode pretty much...
Thanks for the input levw however we already visited that page and none of the items matched our situation. The default module in our situation is "conlog". To us this indicates some sort of syslog or alog issue however we could be way off.....
Hi all,
We are experiencing a continual message in the errpt only after bootup on our RS6000 AIX 4.3.3. Does not seem to effect performance however it is an error and we would like to understand it. Have looked all about the IBM sites with no luck. Thought we would ask here... Any thoughts...
jony2001,
The pcnfs does not appear to be a default dir on our systems. I would have to ask what type of files are in the dir? Sounds to me as if this is a repository for PCs that are NFS mounted to the AIX box...hence dir name pcnfs... however that is pure assumption on my part...
Call,
Generally we test our system backup tapes (mksysb) by listing them and by booting off them. Listing will generate a log to where ever you direct it and checks data integrity. Booting off the tape to the " Welcome to BOS" menu indicates that the backup bootable section is good...

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has an idea as to how one might compare the software load of one AIX machine to either, another machine or a flat file that list the required packages. I have run through the smit screens and have not found anything that would fit the bill. For an example, I have...
And yet another thought....
We make it a practice to have a MKSYSB (two of them) prior to applying the O/S patches. Also note we apply not commit. This makes it easier to rip out if a problem should occur. When the next set of patches come out we commit the previous set prior to applying the...
Madam Queen,
Our app manipulates the printers as well and we have found that the generic driver solves more problems than not.
Your suggestion confirms our beliefs with this issue being a flow control or cable problem. Last night we were able to get the large jobs to print by setting the baud...
Hi,
I have been wrestling with a serial attached printer issue now for the past couple of days and am in desperate need of some new ideas.
IBM 6F1 ( newly installed)
AIX 4.3.3.
8 port asyn adpt
IBM 6400 line printer
We are able to print single and multiply small job however the printer...
We have a customer that had a failed hdisk0 (rootvg) on a AIX 4.3.3 system. IBM Hardware support reported cause of "Stickstion". This is now a new word in my vocabulary. Apparently, this is a known issue with old IBM 2 gig drives. Anyhow, a drive replacement and a simple MKSYSB restore...
Below are some of the more common command line entries and a description of what they do.

edfair,
Well you got me on the right path of thinking. The customer had 2 nic's installed. When we upgraded we attempted to config the first one it found but had some difficulties so we then configed the second cca. Network came up and all was well. We never removed the first nic from the...
OK Well I failed to mention that this happens at the ascii based console as well as via a kermit modem session. It has also been noted to happen via any network terminal running Multiview JSB2000 terminal emulation. Thnaks for the reply though and I will note that for other incidents.
We just recently did a fresh install of SCO 5.0.5 on a HP Netserver LX Pro Dual 133 processors 256meg 2ghd HP10/100VG .
After install we noticed that when entering commands a hesitation at the command line would intermittenly appear. The command entered would show after a short period say 2-3...
The system is currently at 4.3.2 and we wish to migrate it to 4.3.3. Is this just a patch CD install_all or do we have to go the full gambit with all the Volumes?
