if the computers truly are a part of the same workgroup, and you can ping both ways, I would say that it comes down to the file and print sharing clients. I say this because the connection is clearly good between them. I would assume that you have tried pinging both IP addresses and hostnames...

have you considered just blowing away that firewall? you really only need that on the computer/device that separates your private network from the public internet.

I am trying to deploy service pack 2 through group policy. I have already extracted the files from the downloaded package. I have a GPO which is pointed at the update.msi file and the GPO is linked to a computer group called xpsp2 in active directory. I think that should pretty much do it...
