I have just been looking at a problem with IE5 that has me baffled. When you click a link (google search results for example) it opens in a seperate window with an egg timer and just freezes. If you know the URL and type it in manualy you can view any site without a problem.
Any suggestions...
If it is hardware problems it is usually caused by an out of date bios. If this is the case you can sometimes get a bios update. You have to flash the bios and if you flash it with the wrong one, the odds are the board will never work again!
be careful and enjoy :)
Servamatic.
Its christmas afterall so I thought I would do you a favour. Your posts read as quite obnoxious. I am sure you wouldnt want this so maybe a bit of careful proof reading will prevent people branding you a t055er.
Oh and for the record, I should have told you the answer when I...
I solved the problem. As stated there were two standards A and B in the socekts. We used a in all of them. When I was told that the problem was only on some sockets I was thinking faulty cables, interference from mains etc etc.
Upon further exazmination I found that the sockets that did...
You will have to forgive my ignorance on this. As you can guess, this is not my usual chosen type of work.
The cables are all less than about 50m long and run from patch panel to socket. The patch leads are ready made ones that have been in use with the existing sockets without a problem...
I installed some Cat 5 sockets as a favour for a friends company. Wish I had never bother now!
I tested them with a cable tester (cheap and nasty - just checks each wire in turn for breaks) and then I patched a phone through to every socket.
The phones worked and still work perfectly...
Nice one! That would do the job quite nicely! :D
Notice a few people having problems with it tho. Do you think it could be as mentioned he put sp2 straight onto clean install? One of the PCs will be a fresh install, should I hunt fot a sp1 disk do you think?
Thanks again,
Mike

Has anyone got any other ideas? Im getting stuck here. The best ideas I have had all involve running a server. I dont want the hassle or the licensing costs involved in this just to share a...
I have an access database that I need to share with a friend. We both need to be able to update the database and I dont want to have two copies and mess about merging them.

As far as I am aware, nothing has been installed recently and there has been no changes to the system.
It is windows 2k and was working fine yesterday. Now when I try an open outlook express I get an egg timer for a second and then nothing.
Does anyone have any ideas?
But if the place burns down, both disks will be lost? If I am going to take that risk I could just use ms backup and backup to a network drive in the missus computer?
I need to design myself a decent backup strategy. I currently have 2 lots of data I cannot afford to lose. 1 is my email (outlook 2k internet mail only) and another is a folder currently stored on my desktop 40mb ish.
I currently copy my outlook pst file to another disk in the same system...

I have recently bought a PC from a company called MCH Solutions. I have been building computers for years but the price of the finished article was cheaper than I could get parts! I have several trade accounts and regularly visit computer fairs. you can email them info@mch-solutions.co.uk or...
Is it possible to buy parts and assemble a laptop in the same way most of us would knock up a pc? I have been building and selling desktops for years and am interested in building laptops 2.
Can it be done?
Anyone suggest parts suppliers?
Anyone done it?
Cheers,
Mike
