A friend of mine has an HP Pavillion 8560. He was trying to set it up to power down after 30 minutes of non use but it returns this message:
The device driver for the ' ATI Technologies, Inc. 3D Rage ProAGP 2x' devices preventing the machine from entering standby, please close all applications...

MS dropped the office toolbar in 2003. Don't know why but my guess is it had to do with memory issues since each shortcut on the toolbar was actually an open and running file.
You may want to check the BIOS settings and see if there is a "temperature shutdown" thats turned on. If so then its doing its job and you know where the problem is.
Yes they work on the Compaq machine and its plugged into the correct socket, and no they are not powered by an adaptor. I checked and no driver updates are available except for W95,W98, & ME. Thought I'd try them before buying a new set. Thanks for the feedback.
I've plugged a pair of old Compaq Presario (1997) speakers into a PC with a Biostar mobo AMD-2800, and I get no sound from them. Anyone have any suggestions?
