if the DID automatically returns a dial tone, how do you secure it so that an unauthorized user can't simply dial that DID and then dial out? Do you authorize based on incoming caller id?

Do I need a special phone to be able to use this call in / call out functionality? I don't know why I would but it has been suggested that:

on other voice mail systems there is a feature called call-in / call-out that allows a person to call into the system remotely, authorize themselves (either automatically by their caller-id or manually with password authentication) and the get a dial tone on the system allowing them to dial out...
