To DMZ or Not DMZ - A definitive guide

I guess I'm unclear how/why you would use VI3 instead of your firewall to setup a properly configured DMZ.

Slow File Transfer from Server to Domain Members

Speed/duplex should be verified as well all the way around, workstation, server, switch, etc.

Ghostwalk or NewSID after joining domain?

Jcasetnl is correct - NewSID will change the workstation SID not the "domain" SID. Yes, you can run NewSID while a system is joined to the domain...I've done it tons of times with no issues.

Setting up a test vmware network

Once you do this, you need to setup DNS fowarding on your DNS server. This is unrelated to VMware but rather basic Windows networking. http://www.petri.co.il/how_to_install_active_directory_on_windows_2003.htm

    new to vmware

The specs on your systems seem reasonable for ESX, not sure about GSX. I'm running 11 total ESX 3.0.2 systems hosting about 200 guests and have gone so far as to have 52 Windows 2003 systems running on 1 ESX box for a short period of time. That host was a Dell PowerEdge 6850 with 32GB of RAM...

What SAN to buy for VMware?

Just make sure it's on the HCL for VI3...and be sure that you have dual-pathing enabled.

    Virtualizing exchange

Virtualizing Exchange is no big deal - provided that it's setup properly on the correct hardware/software. When you say VMware server, do you mean the free VMware Server or ESX? Also, assuming VMware ESX how many hosts do you plan to have? Do you have a SAN to take advantage of things such as...

Very slow Outlook performance with large mailbox

I've read in the past that if you have more than around 1000 items in your Inbox you'll have performance issues. Personally it seems that if you have around 3-5k items in your inbox, you'll start to have performance issues. The best thing to do is to move as much of the mail into subfolders and...

    Hide Public Folder

Sure, just set the permission as required and remove the check to hide it.

    IIS6 Migration Tool

I'm looking to use the IIS 6 Migration tool to migrate from a Windows 2000 Server to a Windows 2003 Server and had one question that I can't find the answer to. Does this tool do anything on the source server end? I want to test this before a cutover but I need to be sure when I run it, the...

    VMware and Trend Micro

I'm running two servers, one with Server Protect and another with OfficeScan 7.3 with no issues at all.

    Uninstalling SP2

Go to c:\windows\ and remove all of the $NTuninstall directories. Be aware that once you do this, you cannot uninstall these patches but you typically wouldn't want to do that anyway. There are tons of articles on whether or not this is safe, so I'll let you decide for yourself.

No mailbox in Exchange 2003 Enterprise?

login to OWA with that newly created account. That forces Exchange to build the mailbox for the user.

moving a virtual machine from windows server to redhat

Do you mean move a VM Guest from a Windows Host running VMware server/GSX to a Red Hat Host? Sure, that's easy to do, but you may want to be more specific so we don't guess at what you want to do.
