Dave, based on the version of SQL Server a service based on a simple request to grab the stock data and to insert it into a database would be a good route. There is no magic really to it other than the options you have available on your server OS.
If you can upgrade or use an '05 box then...

I don't think without having an index with ParentID ASC and SequenceNumber ASC you will get any performance out of it. The fact that SequenceNumber is in there to me says
BigTableAI02 - nonclustered - ParentID, Active
will kill you and just never get what you could out of an index specifically...

If I was going to do this I would use SSRS's utilities and batch probably. Between the RSConfig and RSKeyMgmt you should be able to fully configure the instance of RS without a problem after the install. Depending on the installation methods you're using you can directly call the batch or even...

only you or the people that put any unauthorized objects on the database will know that. there is no miracle method to finding things that shouldn't be there unless you want to install a fresh DB...
Yeah from what you said the best answer is, make sure you didn't write crap and put it on your instances.
