    IOS Questions/Help

Thanks everyone for the advice. I need to build a couple of networks first for work but once they've been built, tested and shipped, I'll attempt to upgrade the IOS on this old device. Will I need to pay for the IPplus feature for this old router? My plan now is to go through all my old...

    IOS Questions/Help

Hi Everyone, I found an old cisco 2621 router lying around at work. I decided to setup a router on a stick setup but noticed I don't have the encapsulation commands when in int/sub-interface mode. This leads me to believe that the IOS is out of date. FRED_FM#sh version Cisco Internetwork...

Network Issues - Communication between vlans

Here's the current setup in my lab: Multicast Server (smart bits) | Cisco 2960 or Cisco 3760G | Linux box The Linux server is really a special transparent bridge which does not have IGMP capabilities. The smart bits floods 40 streams to the Sw which in turn floods all ports and the Linux box...

Network Issues - Communication between vlans

Burtsbee, Don't worry about the above problem that has since been resolved. From my understanding of what I've read so far, I don't think it's possible to control multicast with just a layer 2 device. The Cisco 3760G that I have does not have ip services module. It's just a L2 sw and from...

Network Issues - Communication between vlans

Thanks for the doc, I found it really usefull. However, this brings up a question. Is there any way of controlling multicast without a layer 3 device. I noticed when I use the following command on my Cisco 3750 (no ip services module) I still see multicast flooding: conf-t)#ip igmp snooping...

Network Issues - Communication between vlans

I have another question for you guys regarding a new problem. There is a server running linux that requires multicast traffic (40 address' to be exact). At the moment, they have it setup so that it flood the switch which in turn makes it to the linux server through one of the ports. I found...

Network Issues - Communication between vlans

Guys, Sorry for not getting back to you sooner. The request to post the configs was denied. With that being said, I had to troubleshoot this entire setup even though access to certain switches was restricted. Suffice to say, I resolved the problem with basic troubleshooting. The config I was...

Network Issues - Communication between vlans

Hi everyone, I really hope someone can help me out here. I've need to troubleshoot a network that has extreme issues. However, the client has mentioned that it's not broken so don't break it due to critical data flowing. Here's the messed up setup: Server1 (Vlan1) | Switch1 (Vlan1) | Switch2...

Connectivity Problem - Multicast Issues -- Plz Help

Thanks burt for following up. I've done packet captures on both ends and noticed weird problems. The packets transmitting from NY are not the same size as the ones arriving in Washington. I'm currently troubleshooting the problem with the service provider. I believe that the problem resides...

Connectivity Problem - Multicast Issues -- Plz Help

I beleive that it's mpls since it's using SONET for transporting the multicast data. Thanks again brian for looking into this issue. I didn't think that anyone would respond. I'm currently working with the telco and we are trying to determine the problem.

Connectivity Problem - Multicast Issues -- Plz Help

Hi, I'd like to start off by thanking those who have taken the time to read my problem and to those who will be providing insight\help. I currently have a network setup with a bunch of switches daisy chained together. (I know, not the best solution but it was in place when I took over the job)...

    IGMP Snooping INFO Request

Thanks for all the input you guys have provided me. I noticed that this thread can be a little confusing and I really appreciate all the help. I currently took over a co-worker's setup that have no layer three device and unfortunately the powers at be do not want to implement a layer 3 router...

    IGMP Snooping INFO Request

Belushi, ***** I assume any routing that is taking place now is done by a router attached to one of the switches to get traffic off his primary vlan. ***** FYI, As long I get the multicast traffic to the encap, it's get forwarded to my modulator via asi and then uplinked to the satellite.

    IGMP Snooping INFO Request

This setup just got more complicated.... :-( I found out that the new release of our software implements n to m redundancy via a multicast address. After reviewing the code, I noticed that the software requires a specific multicast address received at 10 second intervals. If the backup does not...
