I would suggest another problem. Does it still do it with no load at all connected? Maybe you have a battery fault. How old is the unit?

Wahnula just because a UPS is a true online doesn't mean it is running on the battery all the time - I don't know of a UPS that does. I assume you mean a unit that runs as you say on line and not in bypass with a switch to inverter when the need arises. You may have a problem with the UPS...
